About the Artist
For more than two decades, Laurie Sullivan-Roy has transformed imagination, anatomy, and movement into fine-art dolls with an unmistakable presence. In April 2027, she will celebrate 23 years of dollmaking—although creating has been part of her life for as long as she can remember.
A dancer since the age of three, Laurie danced in college and earned degrees in both dance and surgical technology. Her studies included anatomy for dancers as well as medical anatomy, giving her an uncommon understanding of posture, balance, gesture, and the human form.
She has also sung in bands, and every chapter of her creative life continues to influence the stories she sculpts.
Laurie is a wife and mother of three—two grown children and one wonderful late-life surprise. After living abroad and in several different locations throughout the United States, she has returned home and now creates in her hometown of Durand, Michigan.
There, she is carefully restoring a beautiful historic downtown building into her permanent studio. During the extensive renovation, she works just across the street and hopes to welcome visitors into the completed studio sometime in 2027.
Her work lives where art, science, movement, and emotion meet. Each sculpture is created not simply to be seen, but to be felt.
